Frequently asked questions

Short answers first. Each one links to where the detail lives.

What is Safety Checkpoint?

Safety Checkpoint is an emergency communication platform that alerts your contacts when you miss a scheduled check-in, and gives them the message you wrote in advance. It works for daily routines, solo travel, night activities, and any situation where someone should know if you're okay.

More detailLess detail
  • Configure a check-in protocol once with your schedule, contacts, and emergency message
  • Confirm you're okay with a single tap when the reminder comes
  • If you miss a check-in, your contacts get an alert by email (or SMS on Survival) with a link to your emergency page
  • Your message can include an address, medical details, the GPS position you add while writing, and, on paid plans, documents
  • Works for seniors, solo travelers, remote workers, caregivers, and anyone living alone

How does Safety Checkpoint work?

You set a check-in: one-off, recurring or heartbeat. A reminder comes before the deadline and you tap to confirm. If you don't, all your contacts are alerted automatically: two minutes after the deadline, or after an optional delay of up to 48 hours on a one-off. With their PIN, they open your message and see what to do.

More detailLess detail
  • Create a protocol: set the schedule, write the message, add contacts
  • Reminders 15 and 5 minutes before the deadline: push in the iPhone app, email everywhere
  • A check-in that reaches us within two minutes of the deadline still counts
  • Automatic alert: contacts are notified at the same time, and get a one-line email each time you confirm
  • No manual action needed during an emergency. That is the core design principle

Do I need special hardware to use Safety Checkpoint?

No. Safety Checkpoint runs in any browser, and a native iPhone app is in beta. No pendant, wristband, or dedicated device required.

More detailLess detail
  • Native iPhone app in beta (TestFlight), with push reminders
  • Works in any browser on Android, iPhone and desktop, with email reminders
  • No wearable to charge, maintain, or remember to put on
  • Your contacts don't need an app: they get alerts by email (SMS on Survival) and accept one invitation
  • A native Android app is in development

Is Safety Checkpoint free?

Yes. The Safety Base plan is free forever with no credit card required. It includes 1 contact, 1 one-off check-in a month and unlimited email alerts. Paid plans start at $4.99/month.

More detailLess detail
  • Safety Base: 1 contact, 1 one-off check-in a month, unlimited email alerts, your message encrypted for your contact
  • Safety 101 ($4.99/mo): 10 contacts, 10 protocols a month, recurring and heartbeat, 50MB for documents and audio
  • Survival ($9.99/mo): 20 contacts, 25 protocols a month, SMS + email alerts, location protocol, 100MB storage
  • No credit card required to start
  • Upgrade or downgrade at any time with no cancellation fees

Who uses Safety Checkpoint?

Safety Checkpoint is used by people in any situation where delayed discovery is a risk: seniors living alone, solo travelers, remote workers, night shift workers, people recovering from surgery, caregivers, and activists in sensitive contexts.

More detailLess detail
  • Seniors and people living alone who want a daily safety net
  • Solo travelers and hikers who need emergency communication in remote areas
  • Remote workers whose absence might not be noticed for hours
  • Night shift workers in isolated environments
  • Caregivers who are the emergency contact for several people
  • Anyone whose daily routine doesn't include someone who'd notice their absence quickly

Which languages does Safety Checkpoint support?

English, French and Spanish. The app is in all three, and each contact is alerted in the language you set for them, so a parent in Madrid and a friend in Lyon each read the alert in their own language.

More detailLess detail
  • The app, on the web and on iPhone, in English, French and Spanish
  • Alert emails and SMS in the language you set for each contact
  • The emergency page your contacts open is in all three languages, with a switch on the page

Is my data encrypted?

Yes, but not end-to-end. Your emergency message and saved links are encrypted separately for each contact you choose, and only open in that contact's browser with their personal PIN, after an alert. Our servers handle your content to encrypt it and to deliver alerts. End-to-end encryption is planned for a future version, and we are working on it.

More detailLess detail
  • Encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest
  • Message and saved links: encrypted for each contact, opened with that contact's PIN
  • Documents: encrypted for each contact on paid plans once your security PIN is set
  • No third-party monitoring centers have access to your data
  • GDPR-ready: consent collection for contacts, data export, account deletion, no tracking cookies
